Ankara Castle, one of the symbols of the Turkish capital, is home to a hidden neighborhood as well as the historical houses around it: Kale Neighborhood (Kale: Castle in Turkish) is one of the oldest settlements in Ankara and can be described as the ancient ground zero of the city.
Due to its location, Kale Neighborhood is a panoramic witness to the transformation of the city over the decades, and despite population loss, it still retains its old spirit. Today, Kale Neighborhood is home to low-income families living a traditional lifestyle in ramshackle buildings, to men spending time in traditional coffeehouses, to children playing in the streets, and to Turkey's and the city's last tin masters in the alleyways.
